Wedding and Country Village on Amate (Bark) Paper

Bark paintings are created using papel amate or paper made from bark.  The colorful subject matter are birds and animals or festive scenes from Mexican life such as weddings, farming, festivals and nature.  This painting is done by a Nahua Indian artist Augustina Martinez in the Mexican state of Guerrero.  The detail and  color combinations are lovely.  These bark paintings are easily framed with a complimentary  mat.
We can’t rave enough about all the exquisite detail of this bark painting.   All the photos included here don’t even do justice to this artist’s work.  The top starts with a wedding and church followed down by a farm with cows at a watering trough, palm trees, houses surrounded by flowers.  Then a pinata party, a water well, donkey’s with burdens, a lake and a gathering of horses. Flowers surround everything.
Note, the border is very square even though a couple of the photos give the impression the framed border is askew.
We pride ourselves on nurturing a relationship with the artist and providing steady work.  See our ‘Fair Trade’ page for more information on our policies.
