Huichol Indian Yarn Painting

This wonderful yarn painting (cuadro) is created using yarn in many colors. There are many important symbols that work together to form this striking piece. Three peyote symbols are surrounded by the deer, ceremonial arrows, candles, prayer sticks, and ojos de dios or Gods eyes.  This art is created by coating the surface of the wooden board with a special beeswax mixture. Then the yarn is applied to the board, bringing the vision of the artist to life. The surface of the yarn is very tight. This can easily be seen by clicking on the image where it will expand, showing the incredible detail of this art. It is 12 inches by 12 inches.

The artist, Ramiro Lopez, has written in detail the meaning of the piece in Spanish. He has signed it and an English translation is included as well.

This is a very moving work and will draw the viewer into its spiritual space wherever it is placed.

Do not place this art in hot direct sunlight. This may soften the beeswax. Otherwise, with gently handling, this art will stay in perfect shape. Cuadros can be displayed unframed on a shelf or table.
